Tipping In Laos

Tipping in Laos is not customary, but it is sometimes seen. Laos is becoming a popular holiday spot for many in the recent years. Laos offers some amazing landscapes and is the home of very friendly people. Use our tipping guide below to figure out when you should tip and when you shouldn’t!

Tipping Taxi Drivers In Laos Taxis: Not required as you will likely negotiate the fare before hand. If you don’t then simply round up.

Tipping In Hotels In Laos Hotels: A tip is not expected in hotels. If the bell boy goes out of his way with your bags then $1-2 is appropriate. However, it is not expected.

Tipping In Restaurants In Laos Restaurants: In high end western restaurants you may be expected to tip. This should be about 10% of the total bill. You should check to see if you are paying for a service charge though. In normal restaurants tipping is not required or necessary.

Tipping In Bars In Laos Bars: Tipping in bars is not expected. If you are in a high end western bar you may see a service charge on the bill though.

Other Places To Tip In Laos Other: The only other place you may want to tip is when doing a tour. You should only tip if you had an enjoyable time and the guide and/or driver went above and beyond. If that’s the case then $3-5 is an acceptable tip.
