Tipping in Guatemala is becoming more common and more people travel. Its no surprise people are traveling to Guatemala though as it is the home of great coffee and beautiful landscapes. It is becoming a popular destination for adventure and vacations. Use our tipping guide below to figure out when you should tip and when you shouldn’t on your travels through Guatemala.
Taxis: Tipping a taxi driver isn’t expected, though rounding up with even change does make things easier.
Hotels: If the bell boy was to handle your baggage then you should give him about $1-2 a bag, more if its a large distance to your room. You should also aim to tip the maid $1-2 a night.
Restaurants: If service is included you will see the word “propina” on the bill. If not then you should tip 10% of the total.
Bars: Like restaurants you should look for the word “propina” if this isn’t included then you should round up the total to no more then 10%.
Other: You should expect to tip tour guides if you go on a tour. You should give local guides $2-3 for a small tour. If you are doing a full day your then its $5-10 per person for the guide and half that for the driver. Also, if taking pictures of the locals they will expect a donation of $.50-1.
